Wallpaper Meme

* Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper.
- That means you. [ If you want to :) ]

* Explain in no more than five sentences why you're using that wallpaper!
- I just think it's totally amazing! I had this as my wallpaper years ago, and when thinking maybe it was time to de-Shepard my desktop, this picture definitely came to mind and demanded a return. I love looking at the totally brightest concentrations of light - like along the Nile, or Japan, and then at the biiig empty nothings like in the Sahara and the middle of Australia. I don't think I've ever actively looked at any picture as much as I have this one.

* Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

-Or else. Oh yeah. I went there.
Apparently my picture breaks Sithmagician's page. View here! )

I'm fairly certain this was a creature in Labyrinth.

What's your go-to show?

Was just wondering, what other people's go-to show/s is/are. What I mean is.. you want to watch something. But you've got nothing new or you're not in the mood or paying enough attention or whatever, so you just put on something that you know never fails to entertain you, even if you've seen it many times before.

For me, that show is Scrubs.

Masterchef Finale: was it fair?

Seems to me that the final test, the pressure test, should have been treated like a professional chef challenge - blind taste test. But no,

Some strange, strange woman has felted Bella's womb, complete with mutant embryo.

What.

And here are some whacky tattoos twi-hards (omg) have decided were a good idea.
Admittedly the twin tats of 'and so the lion fell in love with the lamb' and 'stupid lamb' made me giggle.

So did the one tattooed around some mad chick's collarbones. Not for the same reason though.

Is it just me...?

Has anyone else seen the somewhat creepy Allen's lollies ad to the tune of This Old Man? A giant doll girl with pigtails moves through a crowd on wheels, blowing bubbles that magically turn into snakes and jubes and whatnot that fall into the delighted crowd. I'm afraid, as a long time Doctor Who watcher, that I keep expecting her to turn evil and kill them all.

The ad is creepy anyway.

Static Electricity

So I'm really prone to static electricity shocks. In Perth's dry summer days, I pretty much get a shock every time I touch something metal - car doors, taps, handles etc. Not alot of fun. One of the advantages to living in Sydney is that Summers here are humid. Not North Queensland humid, but humid enough to stop the effect. Joy.

One of the disadvantages to living in Sydney is that it has dry winter days, so I get them now instead >.< I work with metal sinks and incubators. *sigh*

The Eurovision Song Contest.

It's camp, it's terrible, it's wonderful and it's on this weekend! It's particularly entertaining with commentary by Terry Wogan. I know I shall miss him :(

Stuff I've bought!

So anyway, work might be driving me crazy, but today I decided there was ME time to be had. I'm supposed to take time in lieu? I took it, dammit. Left early, went to the shops. Bought the Devil Wears Prada, Carousel, State Fair and Gypsy. *happy face*

and I found an independantly owned Ezy DVD so they still exist!! I ordered the Big Hit, because for some reason, hardly anyone seems to know what it is, and I think it's awesome. Marky Mark and Christina Applegate! :)

Star Trek. Gold Class. Oh yeah.

It was great! New Bones and Spock were awesome. Simon Pegg didn't come across much like the old Scotty, but I don't care! He was awesome :) Romulans got cool.
Winona Ryder was weird casting.
I'm not sure why the new Chekov got the job, he didn't look anything like Walter Koenig, and didn't have a vibe that made me not care (a la Simon Pegg). It's not that he was bad, he just was another Russian guy, not Chekov to me.

Anyways, really enjoyed the experience. Service, comfy seats, and Star Trek. Whee!!

Have been so fatigued lately. I have to nap at work often in sick bay to keep the world spinning to a controllable level. I get home and I'm so tired I want to cry. I've been cranky. And then weepy because I shouldn't be cranky and I feel so bad.

I've gone to see a doctor, and I had blood sucked out of me. Nice thing: had to have fasting blood (yuck) but was easy done because I took brekkie to work and then went upstairs to visit a collector! Handy that :)

Was awesome!! :)

It's good to see there was somewhere to go in the franchise after the bomb that was X Men 3.

Homesick again

:(

Whenever I come home to Perth I remember just what a fantastic plae it is, and I always go home wanting to move back. There's an awesome lifestyle and community here I don't have over east. The beaches aren't a day time night club with so many beautiful people there's no room for actual swimming or lazing around. And long daylight hours and sunsets over the water are awesome!

Books I've read

Now, I love Anne McCaffrey as much as most people I know, but she's gone and made me cranky.
I just read one of her books, and it was, frankly, shit. I speak of the Catteni sequence, and in particular the third of the series, Freedom's Challenge.
While the first two were hardly masterpieces, I could easily gloss over most of the substandard elements of them and just enjoy the story.

But the third one was just BAD. By this point I'm well and truly over having the characters constantly referred to with both names, like we're too stupid to know who they are, even though there's no two characters with the same first name. Then there's the dodgy pacing, and the somewhat weak storyline, the shallow characterisation... And then the 'heroine' of the story ( I say that in loose terms because I have come to want to bitch-slap her and the word heroine seems remarkably inappropriate) FOR THE SECOND TIME gets herself so tanked on alcohol that she sleeps with a man of her acquaint who is not her chosen partner (and a different one both times). And now she's unintentionally pregnant for the second time. 'oopsie, I got drunk and now I'm preggers to that guy tee hee'.

Like a scab I know I shouldn't pick, I want to read the next book, just to find out if I'll truly detest this character, and the rapidly crapifying storyline.
